Euronews: French kids use AI far more than their parents think, survey finds (Jessica Galissaire)
Jessica Galissaire, Senior Policy Researcher Strengthening the Digital Public Sphere and Platform Regulation, analyzed the findings of her interface-commissioned YouGov survey detailing the widespread adoption of AI tools among French youth and the corresponding oversight gap among parents. In this Euronews feature presenting the survey's results, she noted that interactive tools such as AI chatbots provide constant companionship to young users and highlighted that children aged 11–12 are routinely accessing platforms despite age restrictions specified in vendor terms of service. Furthermore, Galissaire expressed concern over excessive screen time, pointed out that digitally illiterate parents lack adequate support to implement controls, and argued that age bans offer a false sense of security in favor of requiring platforms to be safe by design.
