Jessica Galissaire in TechPolicy.Press: "Where Does the KIDS Act Fit in the EU’s Digital Rulebook?"
Jessica Galissaire, Senior Policy Researcher Strengthening the Digital Public Sphere and Platform Regulation program, evaluated the European Commission's proposed EU KIDS ACT and its integration into the existing digital rulebook. In her guest article Where Does the KIDS Act Fit in the EU’s Digital Rulebook? in TechPolicy.Press she noted that the standalone regulation converts previous non-binding DSA Article 28 guidelines into prescriptive, mandatory safety-by-design requirements for social media, gaming, and AI platforms while establishing a three-tier age-based access system. Furthermore, Galissaire highlighted that the proposal relies on existing DSA and AI Act oversight bodies rather than creating new institutions, though this layered regulatory structure will make inter-agency coordination a crucial test for European child safety enforcement.
